Your life is so cool!! When I was solo traveling in Europe in the winter I was also fighting for my life with my depression, but it can be so romantic if you invite that energy in.

How long are you planning to live abroad? And are you just doing long distance with your partner? I want to do this soo badly but I’m in a relationship so I’m torn on how I can make that work

Hi dear! Thank you for your kind comment 🥹 it’s mostly cool, yes!! Hahaa but also easy to romanticize those that live abroad - I’m dealing with the realities of that right now. You just have to make it your own and laugh at all the bullshit and savor all the magic :)

And you’ve definitely brought up a very tough subject. But my advice is to never put off your dreams of travel for a relationship. We are currently doing long distance and it’s not been easy! He’ll come and meet me somewhere that I am occasionally which has been very fun and “easy” but I think at some point you end up wanting a bit more than this. And the only way it will work is if there is a future plan to bridge the gap. I plan on being abroad indefinitely so he and I still have to work this part out, and it’s possible that we don’t, but that’s just the reality of this lifestyle.

Does your partner have any interest in traveling?

Again, it absolutely can be done, but it’s also difficult. I just say go for it. If travel is something that gnaws at you, it will never stop and you must go out and explore!! The rest will work itself out 😘

Don’t regret not doing it!!

Absolutely loved reading this (not your struggles, of course). It's so relatable and real with beautiful lines scattered everywhere.

"It’s bathed in green life and constantly damp and humid like Georgia or Oregon or Washington. A rainforest of sorts, with its own microclimate. You could throw seeds in any direction and something would grow. I chose this area specifically for that reason, and for the dichotomy of the nearby capital city."

Lean into it. Embrace the sodden days to write and read. Then nip into the city when the sun shows up. Lisbon is resplendent when dry, and I'm sure you'll grow to love it when she blossoms in spring.

Thank you friend! 💕 I think most people imagine moving abroad as this instant positive change and it’s actually kind of strange and will probably take a lot of time to get into the groove of things. Though I’m unfortunately no stranger to discomfort haha. I’ll definitely use this time to hermit and create and then reemerge again in the spring 🌷
